WAAH! WAAH! Kids Need to See the Chiropractor!

Tackling Peripheral Neuropathy

“Why is the baby crying?! I fed him, burped him, changed him and played with him but he won’t stop crying!” If you are a parent and this is happening to you, then get them to a doctor to get the issue diagnosed. If no serious concerns are at hand, take your baby and bring them to a chiropractor! In this week’s blog, we will discuss why infants and kids need to see the chiropractor, the childhood conditions a chiropractor can treat, the safety of pediatric care and how we can help!

Why Should Infants Go to See a Chiropractor?

In today’s society, chiropractors have been scolded for treating individuals at an extremely young age because their body has not developed yet and will supposedly cause damage and impairment to the young child. What many do not know is that chiropractors are doing good and is in fact speeding up the development process even quicker. Many infants have been adjusted days, hours, minutes and even seconds after being brought into this world. Why do you think we do this? Just imagine how much stress is on the neck and back after being crammed in a small confined space for 9 months in mom’s uterus. Every baby is born with a misalignment somewhere in their body, therefore impeding the nervous system from doing its job. It is the chiropractor’s job to adjust the baby soon after birth so that the nervous system can function at full capacity and allow the development process to occur at an accelerated rate.

The same goes for children. When toddlers and children learn to walk, run, play and test their body, falls, bumps and even traumas, their spine becomes misaligned. A misaligned vertebra in a child works the same way as an adult. When there is a misaligned bone/vertebra, there is entrapment on the nervous system, leaving behind pain and decrease function. Our job is to adjust each infant and child to assure they can fully function through the growing years.

What Childhood Conditions Can Chiropractors Treat?

Chiropractors can treat so many childhood conditions that it will take up a whole page to fill up a list of conditions, but some of the most common conditions that chiropractors treat in the pediatric group are misaligned vertebra, colic, torticollis, constipation, diarrhea, allergies, asthma, viruses, ADD/ADHD and bedwetting. These are some strange diseases that a chiropractor can treat, right? No, not really. Remember the nervous system controls everything that we do and controls all the organs in our body. With the proper specific adjustment, the nervous system should realign quickly, and symptoms will reduce over time.

How Can We Help?

First off, I’m sure many of you are weary to have your children adjusted because their such fragile human beings. Let us be the first to tell you that getting an infant or child adjusted is perfectly safe due too many techniques and several hours spent over years of training. The only difference between getting a child adjusted and an adult adjusted is that a lighter force in technique is a must. Other than that, there is no difference in how the body heals. At our office, we use an extremely light force when approaching a child or infant. In the very young, we simply hold pressure in the area of pain or where symptoms are causing dysfunction. We may use the activator that we have shown in the past as that works very effectively as well. As children grow into their preteen and teenage years, it is perfectly safe to adjust the same way as an adult with a little bit of a lighter force. If you ever have any questions about pediatric care or why kids need to see the chiropractor, please do not hesitate to give us a call!
