Do You Have Peripheral Neuropathy?
In this week’s blog, we are going to jump back into peripheral neuropathy and discuss the effects if it is left untreated. About three months ago, we introduced peripheral neuropathy, how to prevent it and how to manage it with chiropractic care. We link all of our blogs to both our Facebook page and are website: www.drlarrywilkinsspinalcare.com, so go ahead and check out our last blog on peripheral neuropathy so you are caught up to read this week’s blog. This week, we are going to talk about some of the negative effects if you leave neuropathy untreated and how specifically, Wilkins Spinal Care can help!
Ignoring Peripheral Neuropathy
Remember, neuropathy affects two of the three different parts of the nervous system (Peripheral and Autonomic). So, there are multiple complications of the disease such as loss of sensation, muscle weakness and internal organ issues. When a nerve is damaged, loss of feeling may not seem so bad when you don’t feel pain, but your body is still traumatized. After multiple traumatic events left untreated, it could lead to infections, ulcers and even amputations of one or more limbs. That is why doctors tell diabetics and patients with neuropathy to take good care of the feet. A damaged nerve reduces blood flow and usually the first place affected is the feet because they are the furthest appendage from the heart.
If neuropathy is affecting a patient’s heart, lungs, digestive organs, and/or urinary/bowel movement organs and if left untreated, the same result as if it were the skin or appendage would happen. An infection could be embedded in the affected organ which would require more invasive procedures down the road.
